Spanning nearly 20 square kilometers in Xianyang city, Shaanxi province, this mausoleum site is exceptionally well-preserved. It includes the cemetery, northern and southern burial pits, and temples. Representing the most intact imperial tomb of the West Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) ever found, it highlights the vast scale and strength of the dynasty at its peak.
The most significant unearthed wares of the Han Dynasty Yangling Mausoleum are the pottery figurines, of which the naked painted ones have great historical significance. They can now only be identified as bodies, as their armor and flexible wooden arms decayed when unearthed.
The four major parts of the Mausoleum Archaeological Site Park are the exhibition halls, the Southern Gate site, the peripheral burial pits and temple sites. Meanwhile, this site park features architecture of unique design and beautiful decorations as well as advanced exhibition methods. It has the most spacious floor area of its kind in China, and its sunken buildings protect the entire original environment.
